My Sweet Babies

Okay, sorry, but I just have to brag on my oldest “baby”. I can’t believe he is already almost two and a half years old. Lately, I am so proud of Aidan. For his whole life, he has always fallen asleep with mom or dad by his side. This doesn’t sound like a big deal, but last month when I took the kids for their physicals, the pediatrician explained how this is a terrible habit. He also explained how necessary it was to break this habit so Aidan can become more “independent” in life. The pediatrician basically said we were going to have to lock Aidan in his room and have him cry himself to sleep until he “got used to it”, and then from their he would go in his bed alone and put himself to sleep.

I thought about it for a few weeks and wasn’t sure how comfortable I was with holding my son’s door shut until he fell asleep and most likely have to listen to him scream in the process. It didn’t really settle well with me at all. So, instead, I decided to explain to him that he is a “big boy” now and doesn’t need mom and dad by his side to fall asleep.

I’m so excited because, he didn’t question a thing, it’s like he just understood! Tonight dad put him in bed and hugged him good night. Then I came in and snuggled with him for a couple minutes. He whispered in my ear “lub you mom”. My heart melted, and then I told him how I love him too, then I said good night. The next time I went in his room, my baby was fast asleep!

He is awesome. I am such a proud mama right now! Then I stopped and thought, my baby is really growing up! He’s my big boy now!

Oh, and by the way, I’m proud of Cameron too! She loves to sleep, she falls asleep all by herself and officially sleeps through the night regularly. What great blessings Mike and I received from the Lord 🙂

What a gift sleep is for parents. To have them both sleeping at the same time, you hit the jackpot! I hope it continues.

Rachel, Whenever you are having a hard day and wonder if you are going to make it through just look at these two beautiful children sleeping and remember they are why. They love you very much and so do I.
